Konrad Zuse

Z2

The Z2 was developed by Konrad Zuse as a prototype to test the new relay technology, which should be reached a higher reliability as the mechanical switching elements. He bought about 200 old relays from telephone companies to obstruct them into the arithmetic unit and program control unit. Furthermore the binary memory was based on the mechanical principle of the Z1. Completed in 1939, the Z2 was much more reliable and better suited than the Z1 technics. Compared to the Z1 could also increase the frequency of 1Hz to 10Hz and the weight was reduced from about one ton to 0.3 tons.
