In Genereal printing techniques can be sperarated into two groups, line-a-time and side-a-time printing. Considering line-time printing this means that everything, text or graphic, is printed line by line, whereas side-a-time printing produces complete printed pages.

But these to techniques comprise a lot more different printer types:
